1. Understanding the significance of a\u00a0Project Report<\/strong>
\nMany learners underestimate the significance of a project report and make a mistake of
\nthinking that excellent marks can be scored by simply producing a good lay-out. This is
\nfundamentally not the case as many projects are graded well below their potential because
\nof an indifferent or poor write-up. In order to acquire the right balance, a learner should
\nconsider the aim behind making a good project.\u00a0It provides the opportunity for a learner<\/em><\/strong>
\nto demonstrate independence and originality, to plan and organize the project work, and<\/em><\/strong>
\nto put into practice some of the techniques a learner has been taught throughout the<\/em><\/strong>
\nprogram.<\/em><\/strong>
\n2. Meaning of a Project<\/strong>
\nThe word project actually means something that comes before anything else is done. A
\nproject can be defined as a temporary endeavour undertaken to achieve a particular aim or
\nit is a study of factual information for comprehending and applying the various concepts of
\nthe course into practice. In simple words, a project can be understood as mentioned under:
\n_\u00a0It is a practice of verification or demonstration of concepts or hypotheses or processes
\nlearnt.
\n_\u00a0It is also a technique of self-learning, learning by doing. It has a practical value.
\n_\u00a0The purpose of project is not to generalize but to study the situation with a practical
\norientation.
\n3. Application of Research Methodology to Project Work<\/strong>
\nSCDL allows learners to take up any topic of their interest and choice for project work.
\nHowever, learners should bear in mind that project topic should be relevant in their area of
\nspecialization. For example, the learners of PGDBA (Marketing) should carry out their
\nproject work only in the functional areas of Marketing or PGDIT learners should select
\ntopics from their area of choice.
\nAlthough an illustrative list of the topics is being given at the end in order to give an<\/strong>
\nidea about project topics or titles of the project, learners are nevertheless advised not<\/strong>
\nto restrict themselves only to the topics specified. SCDL gives liberty to choose any<\/strong>
\ntopic relevant to a learner\u2019s specialization.<\/strong>

\nProjects can be guided by any Post Graduate degree holder with\/without a Doctorate
\nDegree working in an academic institution (preferably teaching MBA \/Management
\ncourse) or a person working in the managerial cadre in any industrial\/business \/IT
\norganization. Learners must take advice and suggestions from their guides from time to
\ntime.
\n5.\u00a0Project Proposal<\/strong>
\nOnce the learner decides the Project topic, he\/she should prepare a proposal as per the
\nformat given in the next page. This format should be considered as ANNEXURE 1 of the
\nProject report\u00a0by the learners. The Proposal should not be more than 5 to 6 pages. In other
\nwords, the\u00a0project proposal\u00a0need not be sent separately.

\n_\u00a0First (preliminary)page should have the following information:
\ni) Top : The Title in BLOCK CAPITALS
\nii) Centre : Full name of the student in Capital letters and\u00a0Registration Number
\niii) Bottom : Name of the Institute(i.e. SCDL), in Block Capitals, and the Academic year
\n8. Instructions for the preparation of hard copy of the\u00a0project report<\/strong>
\nLearners should note the following important points regarding project work:
\n_\u00a0The title of the project-report should not be the same as the objectives, as there can be more
\nthan one objective for a particular study.
\n_\u00a0Each objective will have at least one or more findings and suggestions.
\n_\u00a0Each objective must have relevant questions in the questionnaire and\/or interview
\nschedule.
\n_\u00a0Learner must ensure adequate coverage of the topic in general and objectives in particular.
\n_\u00a0Coloured figures\/diagrams\/graphs\/tables will add value to the presentation of the report.
\nEvery table and diagrammatic representation should have a\u00a0serial number\u00a0and a caption.
\n_\u00a0All Project reports are to be sent by post or delivered personally at the address of SCDL
\nmain campus.Learners should submit thedraft of the\u00a0project report\u00a0to the Project Guide
\nbefore the final submission and make the necessary changes,\u00a0corrections\u00a0as suggested by
\nthe guide.
\n_\u00a0Project Report\u00a0should be of minimum 65 pages for all two year
\nprograms and of 30 pages for all one year programs.(Not applicable for PGDIT\/PGDID)
\nLearners have to strictly follow the deadline for submission of the\u00a0project report. Project
\nreports received after the deadline will not be evaluated.
\nImportant Note<\/strong>
\n(a) For two year programs, the\u00a0Project report\u00a0must be submitted within\u00a0three <\/strong>months after
\ncompletion of the fourth\u00a0semester. As far as PGDIT program is concerned, Part A of the
\nproject report\u00a0should be submitted within\u00a0three <\/strong>months after completion of the third
\nsemester\u00a0and Part B of the\u00a0project report\u00a0within\u00a0three <\/strong>months after completion of the
\nfourth\u00a0semester. For one year programs, the\u00a0project report\u00a0must be submitted within\u00a0three<\/strong>
\nmonths after completion of the second\u00a0semester. As far as CPED (which is only a one
\nsemester) program is concerned, the\u00a0project report\u00a0should be submitted within\u00a0two <\/strong>months
\nafter completion of the\u00a0semester.
\n(b) While sending the\u00a0project report\u00a0to Symbiosis Centre for Distance Learning (SCDL),
\nplease mention (on the top of the envelope) \u201cPROJECT REPORT\u00a0for program\u2026\u2026\u2026..\u201d.
\n(c) In addition to these general guidelines, learners of PGDIT and PGDID must also refer<\/strong>
\nto the guidelines specific to their programs as given in Annexures \u2018A\u2019 and \u2018B\u2019.<\/strong>

\nIf the project is carried out in an organization, a certificate of the CEO or any other
\nauthorized person of the organization is necessary, mentioning that the organization has no
\nobjection in publishing the findings of the project study.

\nAlternatively, the\u00a0certificate\u00a0should be given on the company\u2019s letterhead and signed by the
\ncompany\u2019s authorized person.

\n1. Learners have to carry out computerization \/ automation of any
\nbusiness process as a part of this project. They may choose any manual system or may
\ncarry modification to the existing applications.
\n2. Learners are required to complete the project in two parts, part A and B.
\nPart A (Semester III) Analysis and Design, covers the following<\/strong>

\n3. Learners have to send survey phase (soft copy) document by\u00a0August 12, 2007 <\/strong>to SCDL

\n.SCDL will approve the document and intimate the learners. Learners are then required to
\nsubmit Analysis and Design (i.e. the remaining part of Part A of the project) for approval
\nbefore the end of the semester.
\n4. Based on the feedback, a learner has to modify the design and develop the project.
\nLearners should submit a softcopy in MS-office format (Word Document, PPT-diagram) at
\nprojectreport@scdl.net<\/em><\/strong>
\nPart B (Semester IV) covers the code design, Implementation<\/strong>
\nand Evaluation<\/strong>
\n5. After the completion of the entire project of (Semester III and Semester IV) every learner
\nhas to submit a\u00a0hard copy <\/strong>of the complete project report in a combined form to SCDL
\nmain campus address. Similarly, a soft copy has to be sent on the e-mail ID mentioned
\nabove.

\nGuidelines specific to PGDID Learners<\/strong>
\n1. Objective of PGDID Project<\/strong>
\nTo develop skills, insights, and understandings of the basics to instructional design
\nconcepts, models, theories and principles combined with creativity, with emphasis on
\ndevelopment of instructionally sound storyboards \/ scripts.
\n2. All learners of PGDID program have to submit two projects, one in Semester I and the<\/strong>
\nother in Semester II<\/strong>
\nSCDL allows learners to take \u2013up any topic of their interest and choice for Project 1.
\nHowever, learners should bear in mind that the project topic should be relevant to
\nInstructional Designing. Although an illustrative list of the topics is given in order to give
\nan idea about project topics or titles of the project, learners are nevertheless advised not to
\nrestrict themselves only to the topics mentioned here for Project Work as SCDL gives
\nliberty to choose any topic relevant to Instructional Design.

\nNote<\/strong>: As Project 1, every learner is supposed to write a detailed note
\n(15-20 pages) on any one of the above topics or any other topic
\nrelevant to the application of Instructional Design
\n4<\/strong>. As far as Project 2 (second semester) is concerned, raw contents
\non three topics for creating storyboard\/script is provided by SCDL on website
\nwww.scdl.net<\/em><\/strong>.\u00a0Learners need to select any one topic to create a storyboard\/script.<\/strong>
\nLearner may choose to create either a\u00a0storyboard <\/strong>or a\u00a0script <\/strong>on any one of the topic. Both
\nformats serve the same purpose, and include the same descriptive elements, but vary in
\ntheir layout and treatment of graphics. Sample storyboard and sample script is provided in
\nLesson 12: Visualization & Storyboarding of SLMS is also online in the topic chosen .
\na)\u00a0Storyboards <\/strong>use rough sketches or clip art to visually depict required art elements.
\nb)\u00a0Scripts <\/strong>use verbal descriptions of on-screen graphical items.
\n5. Creating Storyboard<\/strong>
\nc) Learner is supposed to create the storyboard using\u00a0PowerPoint <\/strong>application (ppt file)
\nNaming the file: Learners should use their registration number to name the file. e.g.
\n200500002.ppt<\/strong>
\nd) Alternatively learner can submit a\u00a0hand-written <\/strong>storyboard, for which they need to follow
\nthe format provided in the Self learning material (Annexure B, Page 169). In this format,
\nthe page is divided into two parts. Learners may show the placement of text, graphics,
\ninstructional text etc. at the initial part of their project and they can write the instructions
\nmeant for the graphic artist and the programmer at the end of their project. The learners
\nmay also write additional text or the text that needs to appear on navigations like\u00a0click, rollover,<\/em>
\ndrag and drop<\/em>, etc.
\n6. Creating Script<\/strong>
\ne) Learner is supposed to create the storyboard using\u00a0MS-Word <\/strong>application (doc file).
\nNaming the file: Learners should use their registration number to name the file.e.g.
\n200500002.doc.<\/strong>
\nf ) Alternatively, a learner can submit a\u00a0hand-written <\/strong>script, but they need to follow the
\nformat provided in Annexure A (Page 157) of the SLM.
\n7.Project Submission<\/strong>
\ng) Softcopies of Project 1 and 2 are to be submitted at\u00a0projectreport@scdl.net <\/em><\/strong>to SCDL. Apart
\nfrom soft copy, after the completion of the entire project of (Semester III and Semester IV)
\nevery learner has to submit a\u00a0hard copy <\/strong>of the complete project report in a combined form
\nto SCDL main campus address.
\nPlease note that the name of the file should be learner\u2019s registration
\nnumber. e.g.:\u00a0200500002.doc<\/strong>
